Chapter 49: RACE WEEK!!!

Image
Race week is here!  This is a mid-week episode since the weekend was WAY too busy to get it out ahead of leaving for Florida.  Then it's been busy this week too!  But I'm here.  It's cool and EXTREMELY windy, but the sun came out today and the wind is supposed to lay down in the next couple of days.  T-minus 3 days.   Weekly Stats (for last week): Swim (3x) 3.0 miles (5,275 yards) 1:46:00 Bike (2x) 76.45 miles 4:30:52 Run (2x) 9.38 miles 1:35:01 Yoga (4x) 1:40:03 TOTALS 11 Activities 88.83 miles 9:31:56 Training Notes :     Race week. One year ago that seemed like an eternity away, but here I am.  This past week was horrible in the mental world, as I was trying to prepare to leave, to pack, and to get all my work stuff in order at the school.  It was also a taper week, which just is a lower volume of workouts.  I was supposed to be around 60% or so, and that's probably pretty close.  Nothing to r...

Chapter 48: Good Fueling = NOT Fainting

Whew!  I can't believe that the last full week of my big training has come to an end.  Now it's onto my two taper weeks. As I continued to X out the daily schedule, it kept creeping closer and closer.  And now....I've topped that hill to the downhill of the two weeks leading to race day.  I couldn't have done this without the right plan, the right fueling (definitely am still not anywhere close to perfect on that), and having the trust in the schedule.  But here I am.  Can't wait to leave a week from tomorrow.  Then it will REALLY get real! Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.84 miles (6,750 yards 2:12:30 Bike (2x) 90.45 miles 5:00:46 Run (3x) 25.76 miles 4:30:03 Yoga (6x) 2:12:04 TOTALS 14 Activities 120.04 miles 13:55:23 Training Notes :     It was a great feeling to get my last longest swim, bike and run in this week.  Made for a long week with work, parent-teacher conferences, and personal commit...

Chapter 47: Competing? Maybe.

Less than three weeks to go....getting close!  A little late getting this week's blog out as Sunday night was the Chiefs' game and I just didn't want to type. Then I ran out of time on Monday as it's the start of Parent-Teacher conferences. But here it is. Better late than never.       I had a big workout week as I head into my final big week before transitioning into my taper mode for the final two weeks.  Long run, longer bike ride than expected, and a great time with a podcast member for a short run.  I'm nervous, but in anticipation. I'll be ready. This is my last week of long swims, bikes, and runs.  Then Julie and I head to Florida! Weekly Stats : Swim (2x) 3.15 miles (5,500 yards) 1:47:35 Bike (3x) 130.39 miles 7:23:13 Run (3x) 24.54 miles 4:08:10 Yoga (4x) 1:46:03 TOTALS 12 Activities 158.09 miles 15:05:00 Training Notes :          Big week with the swim distance, bike, and run.  On...

Chapter 46: Focus....

Leaving on a jet plane...in three weeks.  And not in a jet plane, in the truck. But it's getting close. I went to put in my vacation request at the school to request a sub teacher, and saw how close Florida is on the calendar now.  Two more big weeks in the training block, a week of taper, then it's time to head south and east. I'll still have some taper workouts to do the week of the race, but it's a pretty small amount of time and distance.  I really have to stay focused for the next two weeks especially.  Lots of commitments are happening outside of my Ironman training world, so I have to stay dialed in as I wrap up this year of training.  As Mr. Myagi told Daniel-son, "You stay focus!"  Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 4.12 miles (7,250 yards) 2:23:26 Bike (3x) 81.60 miles 4:38:20 Run (2x) 13.39 miles 2:14:01 Yoga (2x) 50:00 TOTALS: 10 Activities 99.11 miles 10:05:48 Training Notes :      This week was a ...
