Chapter 37: Hot, Hot, Hot!

Image
Week 6 completed.   This is going to be a shorter post as everything this week was just…meh.   Nothing bad, but nothing really awesome either. I had several things over the weekend so this post didn’t get out on Sunday like usual.   If you were waiting with abated breath, sorry.   But no one texted me wondering where the blog post was….It was a hot week AGAIN.   And rainy and stormy.   It definitely has been a challenge to maintain what I feel is a good workout rhythm.   But I’m getting it done.   One week, one day, one workout at a time. It's hard sometimes, but my calendar quote this week was "it doesn't get easier, you get stronger".  Yup! Might be a little off, but sure felt like it! Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.12 miles (5,500 yards) 1:51:17·    Bike (3x) 86.21 miles 5:00:51 Run (3x) 9.32 miles 3:20:02 Strength (2x) 51:33 Yoga (3x) 1:27:05 TOTALS: 14 workout sessions 108.66 miles 12:30:49 Training N...

Chapter 36: Everyday Gratitude

One quarter of the way through Ironman Florida training plan.  5 weeks done out of 20. It was a hot and rainy week and it's only going to get hotter this week.  But I'm thankful that I get to do this sport.  There are those that can't do this sport and those this week that passed away due to this sport.  So I don't take it for granted.  I'm out there doing the best I can with what God has given me and trying to enjoy each and every moment. Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.12 miles (5,500 yards) 1:52:48 Bike (3x) 66.55 miles 4:01:04 Run (3x) 18.22 miles 3:15:03 Yoga (4x) 1:34:09 Strength (2x) 38:45 TOTALS: 15 workouts 87.90 miles 11:21:49 Training Notes :          Five weeks down and I'm getting up in my times again.  I have 5 weeks left of my build-up phase before getting into the training specific phase again.  My summer-not-so-routine schedule makes it feel as if I'm not doing a lot of...

Volume 35: Race Recap #4--"Keep Showing Up" and a Podium Finish!

Well, that was an unexpected (yet very satisfying) finish at the Shawnee Mission Triathlon.  1500-meter swim, 27-mile bike, and 10K run.  I went in with a goal of sub-3 hours, and I hit that mark.  But the unexpected part was where that time put me in my age group.  Spoiler alert, it was a pretty good spot.....FIRST!  All the training is paying off and this week's training was no different.   Weekly Stats : Swim (5x) 4.01 miles (7,060 yards) 2:27:22 Bike (4x) 83.72 miles 4:32:44 Run (4x) 19.24 miles 3:18:15 Yoga (2x) 50:04 Strength (1x) 18:12 Other (2x) .19 miles 5:45 TOTALS: 18 workout sessions 107.16 miles 11:32:23 Shawnee Mission Tri Race Recap :          Triathlon #3 of the season is in the books.  My goal heading into Shawnee Mission was to have a sub-3 hour time.  I was basing that off of the hills on the bike (almost 2700' total) and the run.  I'm not sure why...

Volume 34: Because I Can....

Eric Liddell, 1924 Paris Olympics     Chariots of Fire.  I've never watched that movie in its entirety until this week.  I am definitely not Olympic (or Ironman World Championship) material.  But all week, I thought about how Eric Liddell lived his life on the track and beyond. More on that towards the end of this week's blog.  With the end of this week upon me, I've completed three weeks out of 20 of my training for Ironman Florida.  November seems so far away, yet in a couple of weeks, I am already 1/4 of the way through my training block.  Read on, fair follower.... Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.03 miles (5,325 yards) 1:54:06 Bike (4x) 84.52 miles 4:26:06 Run (3x) 16.37 miles 2:55:03 Strength (2x) 41:42 Yoga (4x) 1:42:07 Other  46:06 TOTALS: 17 workout sessions 105.32 total miles 12:25:30 Training Notes :     Well, I'm back up to over 12 hours of work this week.  It feels like I'm not doing as much, but once the week en...
