Week 29: Taper Time But Stayin' Hot!

Image
Love this photo of me at last week's Kansas City Triathlon.  Covered up my face some with the hang loose gesture, but as fast as I was cruising right there, it turned out awesome.   Taper week is upon me! Two weeks of tapering, actually.  That was the last of my long weeks for this training block and when I finish up with Eagleman I'll start up on my full Ironman training!  Spoiler alert before the end of the blog today, I will probably have a late blog posting next week since Matthew's wedding is on Sunday afternoon.  I plan on a race preview along with a short recap of the week.  Starting off with my weekly training stats.... Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.84 miles (6,6761 yards) 2:07:49 Bike (4x) 125.32 miles 7:09:49 Run (3x) 24.18 miles 4:03:03 Yoga (3x) 1:17:04 T OTALS: 13 workout sessions 153.34 miles 14:37:45 Training Notes :           Final long week. And I'm tired.  Lots going on in the...

Week 28: Kansas City Triathlon Race Recap

Image
Just kidding. But I had a great day at the Kansas City Olympic Triathlon.  Spoiler alert--it was a PR kind of day! By A LOT! More to follow (this will be a full recap so bear with me!), but here's the weekly stats. Weekly Stats : Swim (4x): 4.5 miles (7,920 yards) 2:30:53 Bike (4x): 76.67 miles 4:16:44 Run (3x): 13.11 miles 2:06:26 Yoga (5x) 1:59:10 TOTALS: 17 workout sessions 94.47 miles 10:59:09 Race Recap :   What a beautiful morning at Longview Lake. All week the forecast was for storms in the morning and I was worried that I'd have my second straight triathlon cancelled due to weather. But the storms kept getting pushed back and it was calm winds (for a bit), sunny, 60 degrees and warm water. Couldn't get better than that.         Wake up call was at 4:40AM for a 5:30 departure. Got to the race venue just after 6:05, and after a PB&J sandwich and a bottle of water,...

Week 27: Spectator to Participant

Image
Week 13 is in the books.  Minus one workout.  But with some good showings on the others.  I heard someone talk about being a participant versus a spectator this week. That really resonated with me as I thought about getting out there and doing the scheduled workout each day as I inch closer to my goals.  Here are my weekly stats to start!   Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 4.12 miles (7,250 yards) 2:19:57 Bike (2x) 88.36 miles 5:00:01 Run (4x) 26.91 miles 4:43:56 Strength (1x) 20:03 Yoga (4x) 1:36:16 TOTALS: 14 workout sessions 119.39 miles 14:00:13 Training Notes :               So week 13 is in the books.  I have 2 weeks left until I hit my taper for Eagleman.  I did skip my very first main workout (swim, bike, or run) in all of the 13 weeks I've been on my official plan.  There was some guilt at first, but then I knew fully that I needed to take the day off to get some rest just du...

Week 26: Crash & Burn...Huh, Mav?

Image
Spoiler alert....I'm fine. My bike is fine (mostly--nothing that's a big deal). We're all fine.  Just a little slip off the side of the road. Details ahead.   And yes, I know Iceman isn't the one who asked Maverick this question. It was Slider. And Slider, you stink. Solid week of training wrapped up today with a long ride and short run.  With a good story 2/3 of the way through the ride.  Here are my weekly stats to start....(I'm going to try and keep this shorter as I'm kinda tired--also, Julie said people might thank me!!) Weekly Stats : Swim (3x) 3.92 miles (6,900 yards) 2:13:36 Bike (3x) 102.54 miles 6:01:11 Run (4x) 21.68 miles 3:49:04 Yoga (5x) 2:17:17 TOTALS: 15 Workout Sessions 128.14 miles 14:21:08 Training Notes :     I think I jinxed myself this week.  I was telling someone that I really haven't had any bad days or weeks of training since I started 2 weeks ago.  And in reality, that statement still stands....
